VAMED

The international healthcare company invited the club of trade delegates to St.Martin's Spa & Lodge

Vamed is the leading European group of companies in planning, erecting and managing complex public health service installations and health tourism facilities. A large number of health projects of various orders of magnitude and complexity have already been started or completed in more than 50 countries.

Vamed can cater for the entire value chain in the field of health care, from consulting and development, through design and planning, to installation and management. This "everything from one source" approach has been applied in more than 500 health care projects worldwide, as was shown in the presentation by Vamed Management - given by Dr. Johann Strahlhofer (VAMED Engineering, VE) and Mag. Ludwig Bichler, Corporate Communications - at St.Martins Spa & Lodge in the province of Burgenland.

Beforehand, the trade delegates were given a tour of the nearby Neusiedlersee Seewinkel national park with its wide range of birds and its unique vegetation. The national border between Austria and Hungary cuts right through this natural region. From the ecological and biological point of view, this area offers a variety of habitats: Alpine, Pannonic, Asian, Mediterranean, and Nordic influences enrich the extra-ordinary diversity.

Clinics & Hospitals

Vamed has its origins in acute care and has achieved a leading position by carrying out large-scale projects. This includes the development, construction and management of hospitals, and the setting up of financing models - satisfying a range of needs of their customers. One of the most prominent examples in Austria is the AKH (general hospital) of Vienna. This project has been followed by many hospitals abroad - e.g. in Gabun, Ghana and Libya - where Vamed works in close co-operation with local partners.

The main target of the company's rehabilitation centres is to reduce the personal limitations of the patients as far as possible, so that they may participate, as far as possible, in community life. The positive and patient-oriented organization of such institutions is a basis for the best results of therapeutic treatment.

In addition to the newly completed facilities of Neurological Therapy Kapfenberg, Neurological Rehabilitation Centre Rose Hill and Spa Vienna MED, and the refurbishment of the Orthopedic Surgery of Oberndorf Hospital and the Onconological Rehabilitation Center Sonnberghof, two new Austrian rehabilitation centres should be opened in summer of 2010: the Rehabilitation Clinic Montafon in Schruns and the Neurological Therapy Gmundnerberg in Altmuenster. The Neurological Therapy Centre Gmundnerberg, built 400 meters above the Traunsee in Upper Austria, provides 156 beds and excellent diagnostic and treatment facilities, being amongst the most modern rehabilitation facilities in Europe.

Wellness & Prevention

By planning and constructing impressive and exciting projects and concepts for thermal spa centres, from the master planning and project supervision to the corporate management, Vamed has become widely known in Austria and its neighbouring countries. Wellness centres, integrated into the thermal spa centres, offer extensive treatments and facilities for boosting the physical, mental and spiritual well-being of the visitors. The prevention centres aim towards the improvement of  the visitors' health in order to avoid the need for acute care treatment in the future.

At present Vamed manages 54,000 beds worldwide and holds 170 management contracts in 48 countries. In 2010 the company achieved sales of around 713 m Euro.

But, at Vamed, health care goes beyond hospitals and thermal spa centres.  Research and development facilities are important business. Vamed can look back on numerous successful projects in this field, carried out together with customers and partners: from laboratory buildings and research centres for different medical disciplines, to the medical faculties of universities.
